Applicants - Transfer

THIS INFORMATION IS FOR PRE-DOCTORAL STUDENTS AT OTHER U.S. AND CANADIAN DENTAL SCHOOLS WHO WISH TO TRANSFER WITH ADVANCED STANDING TO THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY.

The College occasionally admits students for advanced standing from other U.S. and Canadian dental schools. The College only considers applicants who are in "good standing" with their current institutions. Students who have been dismissed for poor academic performance or either academic/ non-academic misconduct will not be considered.

 

Criteria to approve a transfer request include, but may not be limited to:

• the quality of the requesting student's prior performance and background
• the requesting student's ability to make a contribution to the College and the Profession
• the availability of space in the class
• the reason for transfer
• the reasonable similarity in the curriculum of the student requesting the transfer

Students wishing to be considered for transfer should submit the following documents to the Office of Admissions:

DEADLINE

All items must be received no later than January 1st of the year you are wishing to transfer.


ITEMS TO SUBMIT

LETTER - A letter from the student stating the reason for requesting a transfer.


TRANSCRIPTS - Official transcripts of all pre-dental and dental school coursework.

DAT SCORES - Official copy of Dental Admission Test scores.

NBDE SCORES - Official copy of National Board, Part I scores, if applicable.



LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION - Two letters (or more) from dental school faculty members of the original school.

 

DEAN’S LETTER - A letter from the Dean of the original dental school indicating the student's current enrollment status, and verification that there has been no action taken or action pending against the student, for professional or ethical misconduct.



DENTAL COURSE INFO - A course syllabus and outlines for courses attended at the original dental school.

 

PROCESS


When all of the above items are received, the student applicant's dossier is forwarded to the College's Office of Academic Affairs and the Academic Progress Committee (APC) for review and determination of qualification.



The APC forwards its recommendation for approval or denial to the College Executive Committee for final action.


Should the APC decide that the student is qualified for transfer, the student applicant is requested to visit the College in order to be interviewed by each College Section Head.



Each section heads submits a recommendations to the APC, which, in turn, will develop a curriculum for the student applicant.

The curriculum is forwarded to the Executive Committee for final action.

This process may take several months.



The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs notifies the student applicant of the College Academic Progress Committee's final decision.



All admitted applicants are required to have completed a specific group of immunizations before matriculation into the college.
