Guillermo Chacon, D.D.S., Named Interim Head,
Section of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery,
Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, Anesthesiology
The Ohio State University College of Dentistry has appointed Guillermo
Chacon, D.D.S., as Interim Head of the Section of Oral & Maxillofacial
Surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, and Anesthesiology. In
this position Dr. Chacon will oversee the activities of the three
divisions covered under the umbrella of the section, as well as the
graduate training program in each of these disciplines.
“In addition to his surgical expertise and experience, Dr.
Chacon has a reputation for scholarship and teaching, which will come
to the fore as he provides leadership in this important area,”
said Jan Kronmiller, D.D.S., Ph.D., dean of the College of Dentistry.
Dr. Chacon joined the College of Dentistry as an assistant professor
in 2000 and was appointed director of the Residency Program in Oral
& Maxillofacial Surgery in 2002. He currently is a member of the
editorial board of the Journal of the Argentinean Association
of Oral Implantology and is a paper reviewer for Oral Surgery,
Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and Endodontology Journal,
as well as The Angle Orthodontist.
He is a member of the attending staff at The Ohio State University
Medical Center, the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard M.
Solove Research Institute, and the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital,
as well as Columbus Children’s Hospital and Grant Medical Center.
He is active in a number of local, state national and international
professional organizations, including the American Society of Dental
Anesthesiology, American Dental Association, American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial
Association and Ohio Dental Association. He is also a fellow of the
American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American
College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and a member of Colegio
de Cirujanos Dentistas de Costa Rica and the Hispanic Dental Association.
He is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences.
Dr. Chacon, who is widely published, received his B.S. degree in
Basic Sciences and his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University
of Costa Rica, and completed a fellowship in Oral Implantology at
the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center in Florida.
He also completed a teaching internship at the OSU College of Dentistry
as well as a residency at the University of Washington, both in Oral
and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a 2002 Diplomate of the American
Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
