The College of Dentistry’s
Convocation Ceremony was held June 3 in the Mershon Auditorium. The
traditional ceremony honored the achievements of the Dental Hygiene
and the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) classes of 2012.
This year’s event featured a convocation address by Dental Alumni
Society President Darrel Scott, who reminded the 2012 graduates to
remember four things as they move forward with their professional
careers: “Always remember to keep learning; always remember your
family, your mentors, and those less fortunate; always remember to
stay connected to friends and colleagues; and remember to always be
grateful for all you have been given and for all you have achieved.”
"Our convocation event...
signifies the end of your time as students and the beginning of
your careers as dental professionals."
College of Dentistry Dean
Patrick M. Lloyd presented awards and certificates of honor to
members of the classes of 2012, which included 101 DDS graduates, 1
DDS/PhD graduate, 34 traditional dental hygiene graduates, and 13
graduates from the dental hygiene degree completion program.
In his remarks to the newly graduated students,
Dean Lloyd said, "Of the many responsibilities I have as dean, one
of the best and most important is presiding over our convocation
event that signifies the end of your time as students and the
beginning of your careers as dental professionals. I congratulate
all of you, and I look forward to hearing great things about you. I
hope you will continue to stay connected to our college as you
accomplish your goals and achieve your dreams, and I hope your
future includes all the very best life has to offer!”
