In 2009, College of
Dentistry Professor John Kalmar and dentistry alumnus
Dr. Michael P. Rethman joined a group of expert
panelists for an oral cancer screening workshop
sponsored by the
American Dental Association (ADA) and the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The workshop's group of medical experts, including
Kalmar and Rethman, analyzed relevant data and examined
the efficacy of an array of current oral cancer-related
screening and treatment methods. The results of that
research are featured in the
May (2010) issue of the prestigious
Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA).
Dr. Michael Rethman
is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology,
and a former president of the American Academy of
Periodontology.
Dr. John Kalmar is a Clinical Professor in the
College of Dentistry’s Division of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery and Pathology, and he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and
Maxillofacial Pathology.
