Internship Program

The division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The Ohio State University offers an excellent one-year internship position available to dental graduates from around the country. We currently offer three one-year positions for those individuals interested in gaining knowledge and experience in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. This program is designed to prepare individuals interested in pursuing specialty training in OMFS. We have been very successful helping our interns match with OMFS residency programs in the past.
Interns are given equal responsibility and opportunity comparable to that of first year residents. The goal of the internship is to provide clinical and didactic experiences in the whole spectrum of the specialty. Clinical responsibilities include outpatient services such as dentoalveolar, preprosthetic, and implant therapy as well as conscious sedation training. Exposure to inpatient hospital service is also provided with participation in the fields of trauma, orthognathic surgery, treatment of tempromandibular joint disorders, reconstructive surgery, facial esthetic surgery, and treatment of pathology.

Interns are also required to participate in all conferences provided to our residents. These include weekly seminars in the fields of oral pathology, anesthesia, dentofacial deformities, journal club, and grand rounds.

We typically wait until the day the match results are released to start recruiting qualified individuals for this program. Personal interviews are required for acceptance. Additional information is available by calling the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Ohio State University, (614) 292-9731 or contacting Dr. William Kaye, Associate Professor and Clinic Director at kaye.4@osu.edu
