Welcome from the Program Director
Thank you for your interest in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Residency Program offered by The Ohio State University Medical
Center.
This is a fully-accredited 4 year program, which combines
traditional training in all aspects of the specialty. It is designed to provide
extensive experience in clinical and didactic oral and maxillofacial
surgery, in associated medical and general surgical concepts, and in
outpatient anesthesia, and research. Our program is based out of the
College of Dentistry, but our residents are jointly appointed by the
College and the medical center. The
program offers the full scope of clinical surgery, in both
outpatient activity as well as in major hospital maxillofacial
procedures. Four full-time faculty devote a large percent of their
efforts to the residency program, as do surgeons from private
practice who participate regularly in the educational process. This
mix of full and part-time attendings provides the resident with a
variety of role models and different treatment approaches for any
given clinical situation.
We are proud of the tradition of excellence that our program has
developed over its 50 years of existence. We continue to pursue this
goal with constant improvement in our teaching methods and physical
facilities. In April 2003 we opened a brand new 6,000 square foot
clinic on the second floor of the College of Dentistry. This
state-of-the-art surgical facility offers full conventional
radiographic capabilities, a three chair consultation area, four
private treatment rooms, a six bay emergency treatment area, two
fully equipped operating rooms, recovery room, library, and office
space.
Completed applications are due to PASS early in October each year.
Please consult the PASS website for exact dates as this can vary
from year to year. In late
November, about 20 applicants will be invited for interviews. The
Ohio State University Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Resident
Training Program participates in the
National Matching
Service and the Postdoctoral
Application Support Service (PASS). Two first year resident
positions are available each year.
