Dr. John R. Kalmar is a Professor
in the Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology
and Radiology at The Ohio State University, College of Dentistry. Dr. Kalmar
completed his dental training at Southern Illinois University
in 1979. After a residency in hospital dentistry at the University
of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, he received specialty training
in oral and maxillofacial pathology at Emory University and
later earned a Ph.D. in Pathology at Emory. Dr. Kalmar served
as Clinic Director for the School of Postgraduate Dentistry
at Emory from 1989-1992. In 1992, he joined the faculties of
the Eastman Dental Center and the Department of Pathology at
the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY.
Dr. Kalmar accepted a position at OSU in 1999 and served as
Program Director from 2000-2011 and again beginning in 2013.
From 2011 to present, he has also served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and
Graduate Studies in the College of Dentistry.
Dr. Kalmar became a Diplomate of the American
Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology in 1991 and he
participates in the active oral biopsy service at the College
that receives surgical specimens from across the United States. He is currently the President of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial
Pathology and serves on the editorial Board of Oral Surgery,
Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and Endodontics.
