The Research Program for OSU Dental Hygiene and Dentistry Students

This program serves as a focal mechanism for OSU dentistry and dental hygiene students to be exposed to research methodology, the scientific method and the generation of new and useful knowledge. It helps students to more fully understand the processes of research, including identification of a problem, development of a hypothesis, design of experiments to test the hypothesis, collection and analysis of data, and synthesis of new findings into the greater body of existing scientific literature.

During the research experience, a student has an opportunity to work with a faculty member and to contribute to the research process. The student benefits from the opportunity to develop skills in research techniques and report writing and presentation. It is possible that the project may lead to publication or formal public presentation at a local, national or international research meeting.
