Academic Misconduct
Academic Misconduct |
Students are expected to maintain standards of professionalism in regard to their academic performance and are expected to protect the integrity of their work at all times. Issues of academic misconduct are managed according to the protocol outlined in the College of Dentistry Code of Honor and Professional Conduct and by the procedures of the College Professionalism Committee, if referred to that body. All Ohio State University students are subject to the provisions of The Ohio State University Code of Student Conduct.
The course director will report cases of alleged academic misconduct to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs who may refer the matter to the College Professionalism Committee.
Students are encouraged to talk with the course director if they have any doubt about practices that might result in charges of academic misconduct against them.
Warning and Probation |
Any dental student subject to the provisions of the minimum scholastic requirements rule shall be warned by the Dean if the point-hour ratio on the performance of any quarter, other than the first quarter, is below 2.25. During the first quarter, students who receive a GPA below a 2.25 shall be placed on academic probation.
Any dental student subject to the provisions of the minimum scholastic requirements will be placed on College probation unless dismissed pursuant with the provision of the rule if:
| the cumulative point-hour ratio is below 2.25 at the end of any quarter; or | |

Repeated violations can lead to dismissal from the College and the University.
The Executive Committee may establish other conditions of probation.
Dismissals |
The Academic Progress Committee is empowered to dismiss a student from the College and the University for failure to meet the minimum required academic standard and for violations of performing patient care in an improper or inappropriate manner, even though the student may hold a satisfactory grade point average. A dismissal for failure to meet the minimum scholastic requirements may be waived for educationally sound reasons through special action of the Academic Progress Subcommittee of the College. Probation status for a previous offense should precede this action unless the student's first transgression is so serious that no lesser sanction is appropriate.
If at any time the preparation, progress, or success of students in assigned work is determined to be unsatisfactory, the Academic Progress Subcommittee of the College of Dentistry is empowered to dismiss them from the University.
The Dean of the College, or his/her designee shall send notice of dismissal from the University, to the student.
Appeals |
