Why I chose The Ohio State University College of Dentistry:

Growing up, my family didn’t have access to quality dental care and my first dental experiences weren’t positive ones. This helped drive my desire to become a dentist and I hope that I can help and educate families.

Question What is your favorite class?
Answer

I would have to say that my favorite class thus far is General Pathology. The course is challenging and requires a lot of studying, but it is very interesting. I recall many instances where I can relate the information to people I know, which gives them a better understanding of what they are experiencing and helps them with what they are going through.

Question What are three things people should know about you?
Answer
  1. To start, I’m a father to two amazing kids and a husband to an even more amazing wife. Without her, I would not be able to do dental school and all three of them motivate me to succeed.
  2. I am a praise singer at Calvary Apostolic Church and have been involved in church ministry for over 20 years.
  3. Finally, I consider myself to be a ‘Jack of all trades’ and I am willing to take on any new task.
Question What is your best advice for succeeding in dental school?
Answer

The best advice that I could offer for succeeding in dental school is this: it’s okay to not be the best in the class. I have a lot of experience in construction and woodworking, so I felt as if my hand skills would be amazing. During Operative 1, I felt that my class 1 prep was easily a 4.0, only to have my bench instructor say that it might get a 2.0. The instructor followed up with what I needed to do to improve, and each prep got better and better. Don’t be ashamed to ask for help and use all the resources available to you.

Question What do you enjoy doing outside of dental school?
Answer

I love spending time with my family and enjoying all that Columbus has to offer. We are active members at Calvary Apostolic Church and our family enjoys COSI, the Columbus Zoo, and spending time with friends. I’m able to enjoy all this while keeping up with my wife’s “honey-do” list.

Question What do you wish you knew as in incoming dental student?
Answer

Time management is key! There are so many different things that are required of you with varying timelines, and you just need to get it done. Managing your time allows you to stay on top of things and helps to manage your stress levels.
