If you are interested in both a research and clinical career, you may want to consider the Dual Degree DDS/PhD Program. This seven-year program leads to a combined DDS degree and PhD in Oral Biology.
Program Overview
The dual degree program is currently supported by a T32 Training Grant, the Multidisciplinary Academic Research Training in Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Sciences (MARTDOCS) program, which provides both tuition and stipend support to exceptional trainees.
One to two students are admitted into the dual-degree program each year, and you must be accepted by both the DDS and PhD programs separately.
When applying to the DDS program, please indicate your interest in the PhD program in your supplemental application. You will be asked about your research experience, publications and general interest in research. Once you are admitted to the DDS program, the information in the supplemental application will be supplied to the director of the PhD program.
Oral Biology PhD
The Oral Biology PhD Program is specially adapted to the multidisciplinary nature of oral health research, including basic and translational research in:
- Microbiology
- Genomics
- Molecular Biology

- Cell Biology
Students interested in this program should contact Dr. John Sheridan or Dr. Susan Mallery at martdocs@osu.edu.
