Biography

Rebecca Henderson began a full-time faculty appointment in 2016, but originally joined The College of Dentistry faculty part-time in 2006 as an assistant professor. In addition to her time as an educator, from 2001-2016 she practiced clinical dental hygiene and facilitated the marketing and continuing education programs in a private specialty Periodontics and Dental Implant practice. 

Professor Henderson is currently the course director for undergraduate courses: Profession of Dental Hygiene, Periodontal Therapies, Integrated Science I and II. She teaches Practice Management for the Periodontology resident and masters students, as well as Clinical & Laboratory Teaching for masters in dental hygiene graduate students. She has previously taught undergraduate courses in Intro to Periodontology, Dental Anatomy, Pain & Anxiety Management, Oral Health and Disease Prevention, Dental Hygiene Seminar, Community Dental Health, Geriatrics.

Professor Henderson serves as the College of Dentistry Interprofessional Education Champion, the college liaison to the Wexner Medical Center Office of Interprofessional Practice and Education. She coordinates communication, facilitation and mentoring of the BuckIPE curriculum for students and faculty on behalf of the college.

Professor Henderson is the recipient of the 2023, 2022 & 2017 Student Government Association - Best Didactic Instructor, the 2018 Postle Teaching Award, and the Class of 2015 - Outstanding Instructor Award. Professor Henderson is a question writer for the ADA’s National Dental Hygiene Board Exam - Test Construction Committee, as a periodontal content expert for Cases, Part II, and DHLOSCE exams. She is the past-president of the Dental Alumni Society and is a delegate for the Council of Allied Program Directors for the American Dental Education Association annual sessions.

Clinical Interests

Interprofessional education and practice, including faculty development, peer review of teaching and faculty on-boarding, AI the use of other technology in allied dental education skill development. Clinically, best practices in periodontal treatment procedures, local anesthesia and nitrous oxide techniques and outcomes, and ergonomics.
