"Virtual" Convocation Celebrates Graduates of the Classes of 2020

The College of Dentistry held its first-ever "virtual" Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, June 20, to honor the dental hygiene and dental Classes of 2020 who completed their education in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Using a format that resembled the college's traditional convocation event, the "virtual" ceremony included pre-recorded messages by Dean Patrick Lloyd; Dr. Cesar Augustin, President of the Dental Alumni Society; and Ms. Rachel Kearney, Chair of the Division of Dental Hygiene. It also featured speeches by the presidents of the Classes of 2020, as well as recorded comments from dental and dental hygiene students.

Commenting on the "virtual" event, Dean Patrick Lloyd said, "This celebration was created to honor the hard work, the achievements, and the perseverance that our dental hygiene and dental students demonstrated as they finished their educational and clinical training during a once-in-a-century pandemic." He added, "In the two months prior to their graduation, the Classes of 2020 encountered situations that were undreamed of prior to COVID-19. By overcoming the many challenges that faced them, our newest group of graduates are even better prepared now for the careers that await them, and I look forward to hearing about their future success."
