White Coat Welcomes New DDS and DH Students

The College of Dentistry welcomed its new dental hygiene and dental students at the White Coat Ceremony held August 21.

Nearly a thousand friends and family members attended the event at the Mershon Auditorium. Speakers included Dean Patrick Lloyd; Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Darryl Hamamoto; Dental Alumni Society President Larry Hutta; Ohio Dental Hygienists' Association President Beth Bielecki; and Ohio Dental Association President Kevin Laing.

The annual event marks the beginning of the professional educational experience of the dental hygiene Class of 2019 and the dental Class of 2021. This year's DDS class includes 110 students: 95 from Ohio; 51 female students; and 59 males. The dental hygiene class is made up of 32 female students, all of whom are from Ohio.

Welcoming the new students, Dean Lloyd said, "We are so pleased that you chose our college for your education. You are our top priority and we are committed to helping you accomplish your goals as you prepare to become dental professionals. I look forward to getting to know you better in the years we will spend together, and I urge you to make the most of every opportunity during this remarkable time."
