Why I chose The Ohio State University College of Dentistry:

Helping others has always been a massive driving force in my life and the field of dentistry allows me to do this every day.  Becoming the first doctor in my family has also been a goal I have wanted to pursue since I was a kid. As a biracial individual, I saw a surprising lack of diversity in the field. I was inspired to improve minority representation on the individual patient level and on a larger scale by mentoring youth in my surrounding communities to further diversity within the profession.

Question What is your favorite class?
Answer

Operative I: Here you will take your first steps in learning how to handle and utilize an electric drill to remove decay. This will likely be new for many people and offers a unique challenge that was a first for me academically.

Question What are three things people should know about you?
Answer
  1. I love playing sports! I’m in a basketball, golf and volleyball league.
  2. I really enjoy spending time with friends and family whenever I can.
  3. I lived in five states growing up.
Question What do you enjoy doing outside of the dental program?
Answer

Columbus has so many great restaurants - I’m usually looking for some good food and drink. I also coached high school football before dental school so football season always means I will be watching any and every game that’s on.

Question What is your best advice for succeeding in dental school?
Answer

Pressure makes diamonds. This simple quote resonates with me and highlights the journey through undergrad and what your journey will continue to be like in dental school. Accept the pressure and realize that everything you are doing in some way is making you better.

Question What do you wish you knew as in incoming dental student?
Answer

I wish I knew that I would be starting class at 7:30 AM five days for year one. This isn’t the worst news to find out, but after a long summer of sleeping in every day and staying up late into the night, it was a rough transition to adjust. Good thing there is a Starbucks on your walk and that at least somewhat eased the pain of the sleepy early mornings.
